What is an R-SIM for Unlocking Smart Phones?

R-sim is a thin chip (about 0.2 mm) that is inserted along with your SIM card into your Smartphone/iPhone and is configured in such a way that the phone thinks that it works with the SIM card of the native carrier under which the phone was locked.
